Susan D. Emmett, MD, MPH

As an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Global Health at Duke University, I provide medical and surgical care for patients with ear, hearing, and balance disorders.  My research is focused on reducing hearing health disparities globally. Tackling the disproportionate burden of global hearing loss requires a multi-faceted approach and collaboration across disciplines and countries.  Our studies span prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hearing loss in low resource settings around the world.  Collaborators range in background from nutrition scientists to epidemiologists, economists, anthropologists, cognitive psychologists, engineers, surgeons, audiologists, speech language pathologists, educators, parents, journalists, and patient partners.  This is truly a global effort across disciplines and cultures to address a neglected public health concern. I welcome you to read more about our collaborations and ongoing studies. Please contact me if you are interested in participating or would like more information.
